This was taken on San Juan Island, on the south shore mentioned in a few previous pictures. This is by far the closest I got to an eagle my entire trip to Washington. This individual was sitting on a bare tree branch sticking up out of nowhere against a pretty nice sunset.
I subscribed to the 1-step-at-a-time method (from way far away) over the course of about twenty minutes until I got close enough to take some shots -- and until he noticed my presence. All would have been fine except some idiots decided to walk their dog right up behind him and scared him up.
He flew toward me, if that exonerates me at all, and I got some really stellar pictures that I'll be sharing soon. This was the first in the series.
