Artist's Comments

I'm incredibly happy with how this picture came out considering it was taken on what was basically a point and shoot camera. Taken on my Mammalogy class's field trip to Brownsville at the Gladys Porter Zoo. It was quite a nice little zoo tucked away behind an unassuming front gate. There's more to come, so buckle up and enjoy the ride. :)

This is a green tree python, just for those who are curious to know.

EDIT (11/24/08): Just realized the thumbnail was not working for this picture...hopefully that has been fixed now.

Wow. Gorgeous shot there! Love the black background that the serpent fades into. Makes the green coloration stand out even better.

great shot, i love the lighting tho there are some grey patches on the right that i think could do with some touching up.

it did turn out really well, though you might wanna do something about that digital noise in the darker noise which assuredly was because of the lesser quality point and shoot

still though, really great, love how you got the background to black out with the flash i'm assuming

Lovely snake, but this was for a mammalogy class?
Erm, snakes are reptiles.

Thanks for letting me know about the grain. Turns out when I brightened up the picture, I brightened some grain along with the snake and I didn't notice it. Chalk it up to a too-dark display. :) I actually didn't use flash on this one. Natural lighting all the way around, with a bit of grain removed by request. That's one of the reasons I'm so impressed with this pic. :P

Thanks. Admittedly, snakes aren't at the top of my list either, but in the right light they can make for some spectacular shots. :) Glad you like it.

Yeah...about that... We actually had finished touring the zoo, getting behind the scenes (and in front of the scenes) looks at all the mammals, and we had an hour to roam around. I went to see the serval, the tiger, and a bunch of other animals, and then a couple friends went with me though the Herpetarium they had there. A little off the mammal topic, but it was well worth it. :D
